Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will the mod use vanilla New Vegas Mechanics?
A: Yes. The project will have some new or slightly different mechanics, but these will be tutorialized in the game. It will generally be assumed that any prospective player has at least a passing knowledge of New Vegas and its mechanics.
Q: Will there be any DLC or extra content planned?
A: We have some ideas, but the actual project comes first
Q: What about Fallout New Vegas itself? And weren't characters and factions meant to be in both games too?
A: New Vegas and its events are not strictly canon to Revelation Blues, as it takes place in a separate continuity due to the sheer number of changes New Vegas has made to concepts used in Van Buren, chief among them, Hoover Dam. This does not necessarily mean that just because a concept debuted in a 3d title that it is necessarily non canon. You may consider anything canon as long as it is not directly contradicted by Revelation Blues, if that helps you at all.
Q: What's the current status of the mod?
A: In progress and full speed ahead
Q: Why don't you just call the mod Fallout Van Buren remake? Seems weird not to call it that.
A: This is due to InXile, a company owned by Brian Fargo of Interplay fame, having the name “Van Buren” copyrighted.
Q: Why not make the mod for Fallout 4?
A: A multitude of reasons. Primarily because 4 overhauls gameplay in a way that exceeded the scope of what was planned for Van Buren specifically, while Van Buren has a spiritual successor in New Vegas, making it not only pragmatic to use New Vegas as a base, but also thematic to the goals of the project.
Q: Are you accepting voice work?
A: Not at the moment, but when we are, we will be putting out casting calls.
Q: How strictly will you be following the design documents?
A: Many people in the community talk about Van Buren as if it was a fully developed game that simply was never implemented, but this is far from the truth. The Van Buren documents are messy and contradictory due to the game being a last ditch attempt to save Interplay, and not only that, a few of their concepts have already been executed in specific ways by New Vegas. This has the effect of us not only having to finish the design documents for several parts of the game, but also having to cut or change things that just aren’t feasible, such as the planned multiplayer mod (which will never happen), or the ability to select nonhuman races (Is not currently feasible without many errors in the GECK, but this may change depending on new discoveries or during the course of development). This project strives to be as authentic as possible to the design documents, but ultimately we are a completely different team of creatives finishing a project that was started more than 20 years ago.
Q: Do you need help on this project?
A: We currently have a great team of developers, but help is always appreciated! We are especially looking for scripters, 3d modelers, 2d artists, and animators
Q: Can I donate to make the project release faster?
A: Not at the moment, but if you commissioned assets previously or something and want to make them available to us, that would be greatly appreciated
